The Serapi rug originates from Heriz, a city in northwestern Iran which is very close to Tabriz (a city internationally known for rug-weaving excellence). Serapi rugs were given the “Serapi” trade name to define very good quality rugs woven in Heriz before 1900. A traditional serapi rug has a distinct style; look for large geometric medallions crisply delineated with a rich red, rust or dark blue field. A modern serapi rug may feature light or dark pink, light or dark blue, greens, yellows or ivory in its hand knotted design. For a completely different shape and style, view our octagon area rugs once you finish with the serapi rug collection.
